ABC's History - Celebrating 180 Years!
Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus to seek Saul and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch, and it came to pass , that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church and taught many people, and the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch - Acts 11:25,26
It was customary in the early days that church names were selected from the Bible. From that source Antioch was given its name one hundred and seventy three years ago. Wild Horse Creek Road, a small little dirt road which ran through the hills and woods led to a few acres of ground on which Antioch Baptist Church was organized on May 29th, 1841. The church was organized by Brothers Noah Flood and John H. Thompson, with Brother Thompson becoming the pastor. In 1841 the church had fourteen members. The first building was dedicated May 29, 1841 The church was received into the St. Louis Association in 1842.
In 1860, the Church which had been meeting in various places proposed to build a new Church house which was dedicated on Christmas Day.
In 1921 a neat stucco building was erected. The first services were held there in January 11, 1922. Also in the spring of 1958 an educational building was dedicated. The building was added to the west side of the church. In 1963 the Antioch Cemetery was formed as as Association in care of the Trustees of the church. (* More information on Antioch Cemetery Page)
It has been a glorious 180 years attested to by the fact that there remains a continued witness to what God has done for us through His Son. He has and continues to provide those small miracles that have maintained this ministry.
No where can we find that the Angels celebrate the longevity of a body of believers. They do celebrate each time a soul comes into the body of Christ. That has happened many times in the past 180 years at Antioch and may we continue just so long as we continue to serve Him.
